YOUR FITNESS GOALS OVER 40 ALL START WITH WHY

Your Fitness Goals Over 40 All Start With Why

The last time I spoke with you, I stressed the importance of setting fitness goals.

To recap: if you want to be successful and achieve these goals you need to have a strategy.

Most importantly, you need to align your fitness goals with your own personal values system. What I mean by this is that if your place a high value on your family life, then perhaps if your goal is to be fitter and healthier, how will this benefit your children and your family life.

Will you have more energy to play with your children?

Will you be able to cope better with stress?

Will you inspire your children as a role model for health, exercise and nutrition?

Everyone needs to figure out their own ‘why’.

You need to drill down and find the reasons why you want to be fit over 40, why you want to lose weight, or tone up, or get strong, or do six chin-ups.

This is where a coach comes in. They might be able to ask you the questions that you might not be thinking of.

Your first answer as to why you want to get fit over 40 is not usually the correct one.

Most people think they join a gym to tone up, lose weight and get fitter.

The real reason or “why” is normally a lot deeper than that.

As a coach with over 20 years’ experience I’ve had many conversations with new clients where I try and help them drill down to their true motivating factors; what their really ‘why’ is. If you were a fly on the wall in my office, things might go something like this:

Damien: What do you want to accomplish?

Female client -FC : I want to lose fat.

D: Why do you want to lose fat?

FC: Because I want to fit into a smaller size of jeans.

D: Why do you want to fit into a smaller size of jeans?

FC: Because when I’m wearing smaller jeans, I think I’ll look better.

D: Why do you want to look better?

FC: Because when I look good, I feel good about myself.

D: Why do you want to feel good about yourself?

FC: Because when I feel good about myself, I’m more assertive and confident.

D: Why do you want to be more assertive and confident?

FC: Because when I’m more assertive and confident, I’m in control and better able to get what I want out of life.

And you thought it was just about losing fat!

This is just one example of one area of your life. What about all the others?

Do you see now how it all starts with ‘why’?

The more time you spend going through this process, the quicker you will move from needing motivation to train and make lifestyle changes to feeling inspired.

That is where the real value of an experienced coach comes is, asking the right questions to help someone find their own personal “why”.

Take a few short minutes to look at this video, where I explain why it all starts with “Why” and I highlight why a coach can be of benefit to someone like you:
